Emergency Assistance Grant
Program Definitions
Purpose:
The RCOAD Emergency Assistance Grant (EAG) program is designed to provide immediate, short-term assistance to Rowlett residents who need immediate relocation due to an unforeseen calamity which renders their primary residence uninhabitable.
Eligibility:
Rowlett residents who have proof of residency (such as one of below):
- Driver’s license with an address within the City of Rowlett boundaries
- Lease or mortgage document for a dwelling within the City of Rowlett boundaries
- City of Rowlett utility bill or other utility bill in their name with the address of the affected property
- DCAD or RCAD entry
Criteria:
What is covered:
Personal emergencies that require immediate relocation due to an unforeseen calamity which renders their primary residence uninhabitable.
What is not covered:
- Relocations resulting from:
- local, state or nation-wide declared disaster or emergency
- acts of war, terrorism, protest, riots, or law enforcement action
- eviction or other legal removal from premises, or landlord-tenant issues
- Immediate relocation expenses that are covered by insurance or another source of funding that would create a duplication of benefits.
- Claims that are reported more than 24 hours after the personal emergency.
What the EAG provides:
- Phase I: Up to two nights temporary lodging at a local hotel. The RCOAD reserves the right to select an appropriate facility. Phase I benefits will be available as soon as possible once approved.
- Phase II: $100 per person up to a maximum of $500 per family for food and clothing. Phase II benefits, once approved, will be available usually the next day or within 24 hours after the incident.
- Referrals to other resources for food, clothing and other assistance where applicable.
How to apply for funds:
EAG applications are submitted for consideration to the RCOAD Chair or their designee by Rowlett Office of Emergency Management, Rowlett Fire or Police Departments, or by RCOAD committee members.
